About the service

At Custom Engineering, we believe precision cooling is the invisible backbone of digital reliability. It’s not just about air conditioning. It’s about engineering the perfect thermal envelope for mission-critical infrastructure. Our approach integrates thermodynamic precision, fail-safe redundancy, and intelligent airflow management to design active systems that protect hardware longevity, optimize PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness), and ensure 24/7/365 operational continuity. Whether it’s a modular edge facility, a colocation data hall, or a high-density AI cluster, we engineer the climate that keeps your data alive.

What’s include in the services?

Our Precision DX Cooling Engineering Services

1. Heat Load & Density Mapping (CFD Modeling)

We work closely with your IT and facilities teams to develop a unique cooling strategy based on actual rack-level heat loads. From legacy servers to high-performance GPUs, we perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to predict hot spots, optimize airflow, and calculate precise sensible cooling ratios required for non-stop operation.

2. Direct Expansion (DX) System Architecture

We design scalable, direct expansion cooling systems specifically for data center environments. This includes selecting between chilled-water, pumped refrigerant, or 100% sensible DX units. Our designs prioritize rapid response to heat pulses, dehumidification control (only when needed), and full economizer integration.

3. Redundancy & N+1 Resilience Engineering

Downtime is not an option. We architect cooling plants with N+1, 2N, or N+2 redundancy configurations. Our designs include automatic failover controls, isolated refrigerant circuits, and A/B power feeds so that a single component failure never compromises thermal stability.

4. Hot Aisle / Cold Aisle Containment Integration

We maximize cooling efficiency by designing precision airflow containment systems. Our layouts ensure that supply air is never mixed with exhaust air, raising return temperatures to optimize DX compressor efficiency and allowing for higher-density rack deployment without local overheating.

5. Microchannel Condenser & Dry Cooler Design

We specify high-efficiency microchannel condensers and adiabatic dry coolers for the outdoor refrigerant loop. These components reduce refrigerant charge, lower fan energy, and maintain subcooling even in extreme ambient temperatures—critical for year-round data center performance.

6. Precision Humidification & Dehumidification Control

Unlike comfort cooling, data centers require stable humidity to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) and corrosion. We design low-energy infrared or electrode steam humidifiers paired with hot gas reheat systems to maintain a precise ASHRAE-recommended dew point range (40–60% RH) without overcooling.

7. DX-Specific Controls & BMS Integration

We curate a balanced controls scheme using industrial-grade PLCs or native BMS integration. Our systems provide real-time monitoring of suction pressure, superheat, subcooling, and supply air temperature. Alerts are pushed directly to DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) platforms for automated response.

8. Free-Cooling Economizer Sequences (Air & Fluid)

To lower annual PUE, we integrate dry-cooler economizers, glycol free-cooling coils, or direct fresh air filtration (where climate permits). Our control logic seamlessly transitions between mechanical DX cooling and free cooling based on real-time outdoor conditions—saving megawatt-hours without compromising inlet temperature.

9. Refrigerant Selection & Leak Detection

We prioritize low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants such as R-32 or R-454B, compliant with evolving regulations. Every system includes factory-grade refrigerant leak detection with automatic isolation valves and exhaust fan activation to protect both personnel and equipment.

10. 3D Clash Detection & BIM for MEP

To help the entire project team visualize the final outcome, we provide realistic 3D coordinated models (BIM), allowing you to experience the DX unit placement, refrigerant piping routes, and condensate drain runs before construction begins—ensuring zero service interruptions on site.

11. Commissioning & Thermal Performance Validation (Tier-Ready)

From factory witness testing to final air balancing and heat load testing, we validate every detail. Our commissioning process includes step tests (partial to full load), failure simulation (fan or compressor loss), and thermal imaging to ensure the system delivers the cooling capacity and redundancy promised in the design.

At Custom Engineering, we create precision climates that never compromise. Every BTU, every cubic meter of air, and every refrigerant cycle is designed with one purpose: keeping your infrastructure online.
